The Bradley Folder 2 is a direct reflection of Spyderco’s deep commitment to making even the best designs better through Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.). It faithfully retains all the core qualities that made Gayle Bradley’s first-generation design so popular, but in a form that is slimmer, lighter, and more ergonomically refined than the original Bradley Folder. Its slightly longer handle offers enhanced leverage and control, while the subtle texture and flat profile of the scales provide a secure grip that remains comfortable even during extended use. The blade of this highly evolved folder is hollow-ground from high-alloy, CPM M4 tool steel. This special-purpose high-speed steel was created for applications requiring better wear resistance and toughness than M2 or M3 alloys. Thanks to the particle metallurgy process, its structure is extremely homogenous and offers superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness. CPM M4 is, however, a tool steel—not a stainless steel—and must be maintained properly to avoid corrosion. The Bradley Folder 2’s handle features exceptionally thick full skeletonized stainless steel liners, a high-strength LinerLock mechanism, and carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales that are slightly smaller than the profile of the liners. This handle style offers a hand-filling grip and excellent tactile orientation, while still keeping the knife slim and easy to carry. A four-position hourglass clip allows a full spectrum of carry positions, including both tip-up and tip-down carry on both the left and right sides.

In the 1990s Spyderco was approached by a specialized branch of U.S. law enforcement about making a knife for their undercover agents. These plain-clothed Law Enforcement Officers found themselves in situations where they often could not carry a firearm but carrying a knife was not a problem. Most had no formal training in self-defense tactics or MBC (Martial Blade Craft) but as a last resort could use a blade to protect or extricate themselves from a life-threatening situation. This was how the Civilian model came to be. The Civilian has a patented reverse “S” blade that’s intended to be used like an oversized claw. The tip is ground to an ultra-thin profile. The salt 1 folding knife was a revolutionary pocket-sized cutting tool that combined the 100% rustproof properties of nitrogen-based H-1 steel with the high-performance features and benefits of Spyderco third-generation Delia design. Although it earned an extremely devoted following, in some ways it was outpaced by some of the design improvements that make our Delia 4 design even better. Consistent with our Obsession with constant quality improvement (C.Q.I.), we decided to revamp the design to create the salt 2. It combines all the salient features of the best-in-class Delia 4 lightweight C88PYL2 with the extraordinary corrosion resistance of H-1 steel. These include enhanced ergonomics, a high-traction bi-directional texturing pattern on the handle, and a black-coated titanium pocket clip that supports left or right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry. Unlike the Delia 4, which uses stainless steel liners in the handle, the salt 2’s handle components are molded from solid fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) and fitted with four sets of threaded stainless-steel inserts to mount the four-position clip. All other metal hardware on the salt 2 is also machined from special non-rusting alloys.

The stainless Endura 4, fills your palm with a handful of steel yet doesn’t seem weighty or unwieldy. Knife Knuts who prefer something heavier and stouter seem to gravitate to steel handled knives. Since the handle surface is flat and smooth it offers an ideal palette for engraving or personalizing your knife. As part of Spyderco’s CQI™ (Constant Quality Improvement) philosophy the C10SS now offers improved ergonomics – added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping, a larger thumb hole, a stronger thicker tip and a new 4-way clip design (R/L reversible & Tip-up/Tip-down).
