Since starting spyderco we’ve been told our knives are different, peculiar, even out there. All true. Thinking beyond established knife industry barriers allowed us to introduce new and Radical innovations to the knife culture including: one-hand opening, serrations on a folder and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. We didn’t go into business to rake in a mountain of dough we’re here for more selfish Reasons- indulging our passion for creating knives. Someone once said to sal glesser, spyderco’s owner, “you must design in the dark because your knives look so strange.” true again. Our recognizable appearance is a result of designing ergonomic functional tools rather than applying lipstick and nylons to a pocketknife. We may look curious, homely, whatever, but we’ll never be called unusable or undependable. This classic, durable knife is part of Spyderco’s Bill Moran-designed line of cutlery. Heralded as the father of modern Damascus steel forging and the founder of the American Bladesmith’s Society, Bill Moran — during his “retirement” years — collaborated with Spyderco to create a fixed blade design that remains a bestseller many years later.

This knife has an upswept, Bowie-style blade, flat-ground from VG-10 steel and featuring Moran’s engraved signature. The blade is tapered, starting thick where it joins the handle, and thinning down along the spine to a fine, uniformly ground tip. The remarkably well balanced knife feels very natural in the hand, providing steady control over the cutting edge during use. An FRN handle fits comfortably and naturally in the palm, and is inlayed with a panel of nonslip Kraton material. Ideal for hunting, camping, and many other outdoor applications, this knife additionally includes a convenient molded Boltaron sheath with multi-position G-clip that attaches easily to a belt or pack.

The Fieldcraft Knife was designed by The Brothers of Bushcraft, a coalition of men across North America focusing on sharing wilderness living skills of all categories. From tracking, to building shelters, the Brothers of Bushcraft make it a point to show the skills to all people, of all ages, from all over. The Fieldcraft Knife is the culmination of their knowledge, combining experiences from; the broad and humid rain forests, the arid and scorpion-littered deserts, and the frigid northern lands that span the Americas. The handle is one of the most ergonomic ones on the market, sporting several useful additions. Although knives with a lot of frills often end up lacking, the additional items found on the Fieldcraft knife were selected from experience and critiqued in every step of design, development and production. Being made of canvas micarta, the handle will never let you down. The bow drill divot on the handle is frictionless and makes starting those primitive fires almost effortless. The “Thumb Scallops”, formed on the hilt of the handle offer more comfort and control when using specialized carving and skinning grips. The pommel of the blade is simply the tang of the knife exposed enough to allow impact from a baton to not effect the handle (though the micarta is definitely tough enough to take such abuse). On the exposed pommel, you will find a scraper specially designed by one of The Brothers of Bushcraft, for striking Ferro rods in a safe and efficient manner. The Fieldcraft knife has had heavy duty abuse, and testing done in the wilderness of Canada, where local survival experts Mors Kochanski, Dr. Gino Ferri, and many others have deemed her a “Serviceable Field Knife”.
