This sheath is designed specifically and exactly for the Gransfors Bruks (or Bruk) Scandinavian Forest Axe. It is made out of raw cowhide and treated with Neatsfoot oil. The sheath is handmade in Spokane, Washington. The construction of the sheath starts with three pieces of leather: the main body of the sheath, the securing strap and the welt. The main body is folded over a welt that is inserted into between the two folded halfs which prevents the blade of the inserted axe from cutting the stitch that is placed to hold the sheath together. The sheath is then glued and hand stitched (saddle stitch – most secure, will hold if one strand is cut) and rivets are placed at the corners to reinforce the body. Rivets are kept out of the way of the blade (incase you are to strike the axe with the sheath on) which will prevent the edge from hitting the rivets as it cuts through the sheath). The axe head blade, when placed in the sheath, is prevented from touching the rivets because of the welt. The retention strap is then secured with a rivet and a snap is added for easy on/off action. This sheath is built to last, and quality hand made in the USA (Spokane, Washington). Finish to the edges of the leather is applied for aesthetic appeal.
